Positive, Enriching, Face-to-Face Instruction

Fall 2023 Schedule Listed Below

On The Bright Side

On the Bright Side was created to provide children in our community an opportunity to have positive, enriching, face-to-face instruction. We are here to simply offer supplemental instruction for children who are homeschooled and children who attend public and/or private school. Our goal is to provide a fun learning experience and much needed socialization in a safe, small, and healthy environment.

Fall 2023 Class Schedule

Class: Fun with Literacy  & Science (K – 2nd Grade)

“Fun with Literacy” is a class packed full of learning that meets the needs of each child at their particular learning level. I find fun, engaging ways to teach phonics as well as practice sight word recognition. We also spend time with a read aloud followed by a discussion about setting, characters, and sequence of events.

Another aspect of this class is writing. There will be written response activities with a focus on developmentally appropriate expectations of good sentence formation. I also take time each week to have “show and share” so that they can practice presenting to the class and connecting with classmates. Each week I will send home a little book with a reading activity to complete as well as a writing activity.

“Fun with Science” is a class that provides an introductory level to science. Though it is a primary level, it is an engaging class that offers opportunities for experiments and hands-on activities. They will learn early on that science can be fun! I will provide instruction each week and send them home with activities to complete prior to the next class. There will be lessons that encourage developmentally appropriate at home research and small in class presentations. They discover and learn so much in this class while being immersed in science.

Class: Literacy, Science & U. S. Geography (3rd – 6th Grade)

Novel Study: This class offers an opportunity to dig in and experience great literature. I will provide the students with the books we read and all other necessary materials. Each week, students will be assigned chapters to read and will be given comprehension activities to complete that go along with the assigned reading. In class, I take a “literature circle” approach to our discussions about the week’s reading. We spend time as a class discussing story elements, vocabulary and connecting the literature to ourselves, to others, and the world around us.

Science can be so much fun with so many engaging opportunities! My goal is to make science exciting for the students while providing them with whole group instruction as well as opportunities for group activities and experiments. In this class, we will discuss, “take notes”, and discover through hands-on activities. There will be times throughout the semester that students will do at home research and in class presentations. I will provide each student with all necessary materials and work to complete prior to next week’s class.

U.S. Geography: This class will explore many aspects of our great nation. We will study regions and states and their particular physical features. We will learn about the history of the people that live in each state as well as industries particular to that state.

We will also learn about each state’s agriculture and tourism industry. In addition to learning the capitals of each state, students will learn about products and people famous to each state. Opportunities for research and presentations will occur often.
